West Highland Way: Scotland’s Legendary Trail is a nine-night, eight-day journey through some of the most dramatic and awe-inspiring landscapes in the Highlands. This adventure is for women ready to push themselves, experience wild beauty and feel the pride of reaching Fort William on foot.

We’ll walk from Milngavie to Fort William, travelling through forests, along lochs, over moorland and into deep mountain valleys. Each day brings new views, a new challenge, and a growing sense of “I can do this.” Your main luggage will be transferred for you, you’ll carry only what you need for the day, and you’ll have support, guidance, and encouragement from a team and group of women sharing the journey.

This is a physical, emotional and deeply rewarding trip and a true achievement you’ll remember for life.

Itinerary

*Please note this itinerary is subject to change

Day 1 – Arrive in Milngavie

Arrive and get settled, then meet your fellow walkers and guides. A relaxed evening allows time to get to know each other and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2 – Milngavie to Drymen

Start the trail with a gentle introduction through woodland and farmland. Leave the busy world behind as you find your rhythm on the path, ending in the village of Drymen.

  • Milngavie to Drymen (approx. 12 miles/6 hours)

Day 3 – Drymen to Rowardennan

Climb Conic Hill for sweeping views over Loch Lomond – an iconic moment on the West Highland Way. Continue along wooded loch shores to reach Rowardennan, feeling the sense of achievement building with every step.

  • Drymen to Rowardennan (approx. 15 miles/7-9 hours)

Day 4 – Rowardennan to Inverarnan

A challenging but rewarding day along rocky tracks and lochside paths. Take in the rugged scenery and feel the satisfaction of every step as you approach Inverarnan.

  • Rowardennan to Inveranan (approx. 14 miles/8-9 hours)

Day 5 – Inverarnan to Tyndrum

A slightly easier day through ancient woodlands and along rivers. Explore historical sites, see waterfalls, and enjoy the peaceful Highland atmosphere as you near Tyndrum, the halfway point of the trail.

  • Inveranan to Tyndrum (approx. 12 miles/6 hours)

Day 6 – Tyndrum to Glencoe

The long, iconic crossing of Rannoch Moor – a wild, remote expanse surrounded by towering mountains. The landscape here is unforgettable, leading into the dramatic scenery of Glen Coe.

  • Tyndrum to Glencoe (approx. 18 miles/8-9 hours)

Day 7 – Glencoe to Kinlochleven

Take on the Devil’s Staircase, a steep ascent with stunning views over the Glen Coe mountains and Blackwater Reservoir. The descent brings you into Kinlochleven, where you can reflect on the challenges conquered so far.

  • Glencoe to Kinlochleven (approx. 10 miles/5-6 hours)

Day 8 – Kinlochleven to Fort William

Your final day includes walking along old military roads with incredible views of Ben Nevis and Glen Nevis. Arriving in Fort William, you’ll celebrate completing the West Highland Way — an epic personal achievement.

  • Kinlochleven to Fort William (approx. 15 miles/6-7 hours)

Day 9 – Departure

Say goodbye to the trail and your fellow walkers, leaving with tired legs, full hearts, and memories of one of Scotland’s most legendary journeys.

  • Take a train or bus back to your starting destination (not included but we can help you with this)

Accommodation

Our accommodation for this epic trek along the West Highland Way will be a mixture of B&B’s, bunkhouses and hostels.

NOTE: This adventure begins in Milngavie and ends in Fort William. If arriving by car, there is parking available at the first accommodation in exchange for a charity donation. When the trek ends in Fort William, you will need to make your own way back to Milngavie via bus/train (we can help you with this) As always, we encourage you to car share – we love our planet!

Getting there

Closest train station: Milngavie
Closest airport: Glasgow (13 miles)

The trip will start in Milngavie and will end in Fort William.
If you choose to use public transport to arrive at the the start of the trip, you will be able to continue your journey home directly from Fort William.
If you choose to drive to the start of the trip, then you will need to take a train or bus from Fort William back to Milngavie (where your car will be)

FAQs

What do I need to bring?
We’ll send you a packing list closer to the start of the trip but you should pack for every kind of weather and your luggage (for the the transfer) should weigh no more than 20kg). You will be carrying a daypack every day on this trip so we recommend it is comfortable to carry and also large enough to have layers, lunches, water, snacks and anything else you might want during the day.

Insurance
