THE TOUR

Since 2023, Outdoor Adventure Girls has been offering bespoke travel tours for their 40,000 members. The international trips will focus on outdoor adventure, pushing guests out of their comfort zone and creating incredible connections with other women in the most sought-after bucket list destinations on Earth.

For this OAG Overseas tour, we are heading to the amazing country of Peru. This magical country is home to the iconic Machu Picchu, and the Inca Trail, as well as Rainbow Mountain and the stunning high-altitude city of Cusco. The trip includes a jam-packed 10 days of adventure with stops at all of the most amazing places to see in this magical country. All of this and more is why we are so excited to take you here in 2024.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Lima

Welcome to Lima, the “City of Kings”. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. Your local guide will meet you at 1pm for a welcome briefing, before heading on an orientation walking tour around the modern district of Miraflores.

  • Group transfer from Lima airport to the hotel, in private service with Tour Leader.
  • Welcome meeting at the hotel with the Tour Leader
  • Miraflores Orientation Walk with the Tour Leader
  • Dinner at Huaca Pucllana restaurant (set menu)
  • Transport to and from any included activities

Accommodation: El Tambo II Hotel 3* or similar

Day 2 – Lima to Cusco

In the morning, get picked up from your hotel and transferred to Lima airport for your domestic flight to Cusco. Cusco is a favourite destination of many visitors to Peru. As you wander the streets and side alleys of the city you will witness the perfect tapering Inca stonework that provided the foundations for many of Cusco’s colonial and modern buildings. Take the time to acclimatize to the city’s 3450-metre high (11,150 ft) altitude.

You’ll enjoy a walking tour and then head for lunch at Mama Seledonia, a restaurant that helps and supports young single mothers and teenagers in rural areas with talent and passion for cooking. In the evening you will learn about Pisco drink.

Day 3 – Cusco / Sacred Valley / Ollantaytambo

At around 08:00AM, you will be picked up from your hotel to start with visit of the Sacred Valley. On the way you will stop at a point known as El Mirador, from where you will be able to see the whole Sacred Valley and receive a good insight of the Inca history. Later, you will drive towards a community in Ollantaytambo where the group will have lunch.

  • Awamaki Community Visit: Lunch and workshop at the community
  • Transport to and from any included activities

Accommodation: Tunupa Lodge 3* or similar

Day 4 – Begin the Inca Trail

During the next four days, you’ll be hiking the Classic Inca Trail. While away from Cusco, the bulk of your luggage will be stored at your hotel. The evening before you leave Cusco, you’ll receive a small duffle bag to carry your clothes in during the trek (6 kg maximum). This morning you will set off on a journey on the Inca Trail by travelling to where your trek begins.

Today you will hike past the ancient hilltop fort of Huillca Raccay and the beautiful
archaeological site of Llactapata. It is a fairly leisurely hike and along the way there are stunning views of snow-capped Veronica Peak (5860m).

Note: The Inca Trail is within the abilities of most reasonably fit people, but please come prepared, as the trail is 45 kilometers long and often steep. Each day’s journey generally consists of seven hours of walking (uphill and downhill), with stops for snacks and lunch. Accommodation on the trek is camping (three nights). Double tents (twin-share) and foam camping mats will be provided. The porters will set up the tents while the cook prepares meals. Sleeping bags during the Inca trek and Walking poles are not included (the cost to hire these are sleeping bags (USD 25.00 per person), and walking poles (USD 16.00 per person).

Day 5 – Inca Trail

Today is the most difficult part of the trek as you climb to Warminwanusca, or Dead Woman’s Pass (4200m). Along the way you will trek through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery to be seen anywhere in the Andes.

Accommodation: Camping – with basic facilities

Day 6 – Inca Trail

You will climb up to the oval-shaped ruin of Runkurakay, which is believed to have once been an Inca tambo or post house. Pushing on up the Inca staircase and beside two tiny and fast diminishing mountain lakes, you will be rewarded at the summit of your second pass (3900m) with spectacular views of Pumasillo (6245m) and the entire snow-capped Vilcabamba range. Butterflies flutter across the trail and the air is pure and clean as you head to breathtaking Winaywayna (2650m).

Day 7 – Inca Trail / Machu Picchu / Cusco

The day starts before dawn with breakfast served nice and early at approximately 4.30 am. We start hiking by 6 am through to the Inti-Punku (sun gate) and it is here you will enjoy your first views of Machu Picchu, often referred to as the Lost City of the Incas.

Built around 1450, the city was deserted less than a century later following the Spanish invasion and ‘lost’ for hundreds of years before it was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911.

You will have a guided tour of this great archaeological site you’ll take the bus down to the small town of Aguas Calientes where you’ll have a couple of free hours to wander around or have lunch on your own. Afterward, you’ll board the tourist train back to Ollantaytambo town, followed by a transfer to Cusco city.

Note: According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations, all visitors must follow a pre-determined route within the site. This route must be followed in one direction only and once the guided visit commences, exiting and reentering the site is not permitted. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.

Day 8 – Cusco

This day will be free for you to explore Cusco on your own, and or recover from your 4 days of hiking. Grab a coffee and people watch in the square, get a massage or fuel up on good food.

Day 9 – Rainbow Mountain

We’ll leave from Cusco city early (approx 6am) to go to Rainbow Mountain. The journey begins with two hours by bus is in order to get to the community of Cusipata (3450 meter-high) where we can stop and use toilet. After breakfast (7:30 am), we continue for one more hour by vehicle to get to the start of the trek, where we walk for 1.5 hour uphill in order to get to Vinicunca Mountain (5000 meter-high), as well as views of snowcapped mountain Ausangante (6384 meter-high).

Day 10 – Cusco to Lima

Today is the last day of your tour. Your departure is included back to Cusco Airport but your flight back to Lima is not included, as many flights do transfers through Lima from here. It also means you can leave Cusco when you need, rather than arriivng in Lima hours before schedule.

ACCOMMODATION

Our accommodation for the trip will be an array of 3* and 4* hotels. We have carefully chosen the accommodation to maximise your experience on this bucket list trip.

*You will be sharing a room with another guest, in a room with twin beds, with an ensuite. Rooms will be allocated randomly, unless specified otherwise.

PRICE

£2,199 per person including all as stated above and must be booked via Intrepid Travel.

To secure your place on this tour, the deposit is £200 per person. The remaining balance can be paid in full or can be paid in installments – you can speak to Intrepid about a payment plan.

*There will be one transfer per trip for arrival and one for departure. Attendees will be recommended a flight, but if you book alternative flights, transfers will not be provided and will be at the cost of the guest.

INSURANCE

It is the attendee’s responsibility to have the appropriate travel insurance for this trip. It is compulsory for all guests to have travel insurance. Please let us know if you have appropriate travel insurance before the trip.

FLIGHTS

Flights are not included as we wanted to give you the option of where to fly when and where you want. As a guide, there are flights to Peru from London from around £900 for direct flights.

However, if you want help booking flights, Intrepid Travel is on hand to help you throughout the booking process and can book flights for you if required.
