General

Am I too old to join Outdoor Adventure Girls?

You’re absolutely not too old. Women of all ages join Outdoor Adventure Girls, from their early 20s right through to their 60s and beyond. Age tends to fade into the background very quickly once you’re sharing experiences, conversations and fresh air together.

What matters here isn’t your age, but your openness to adventure, connection and trying something a little different. We like to think we leave our age at the door and focus instead on being young at heart.

It’s my first time hiking — can I still join a trip?

Yes, you’re very welcome. Many women join us on their very first hike. You don’t need to be an experienced hiker or feel like you have it all figured out. If you’re new, we recommend doing a few gentle walks beforehand and making sure your boots are worn in, but beyond that, you’ll be supported every step of the way. Everyone starts somewhere and Outdoor Adventure Girls exists to make that starting point feel safe and encouraging.

How do I know if I’ll be fit enough to join a hike?

It’s completely normal to worry about this. We design our hikes so the group stays together, with time to rest, chat and enjoy the experience rather than rush through it. We also clearly communicate the difficulty level of each hike (rated 1, 2 or 3), which you can find on the relevant Instagram post for that event. This allows you to choose something that feels right for you, not what you think you should be able to do.

I’m nervous, can I come solo, or does everyone already know each other?

You can absolutely come solo and most women do. Feeling nervous is very common, especially if you’re arriving alone. The reality is that the majority of our community come on their own, which is exactly what makes the atmosphere so welcoming and inclusive.

You might arrive solo, but you won’t feel that way for long. Many women leave having made genuine friendships, and some even go on to arrange their own meet-ups long after the trip has ended.

Why aren’t all your Mountain Leaders or instructors women?

We always aim to work with female Mountain, Hill and Moorland Leaders where possible. However, availability can vary depending on location, dates and logistics.

What never changes is our commitment to safety, professionalism and creating a supportive environment. Every leader or instructor we work with is fully qualified, experienced and aligned with our values.

How do I book one of your trips?

Booking is simple. Just head to our website at www.outdooradventuregirls.com and choose the trip you’d like to join. Each trip page includes all the key details to help you decide whether it’s right for you.

Can I pay in instalments?

For UK trips, some events offer instalment options, which will be clearly shown on the trip page. For overseas trips, all events are available to pay in instalments either via us or our suppliers. If spreading the cost makes it easier to say yes, we want to support that where possible.

Is my trip confirmed straight away?

Each trip has a minimum number of guests required for it to go ahead. For overseas trips, this is usually 10 guests. For UK weekends, the minimum is typically 15 guests. Most of our trips do go ahead and often sell out, but if minimum numbers aren’t reached, there is a small chance a trip may need to be cancelled. If this happens, we will always communicate clearly and no later than 12 weeks before the event.

What if I need to cancel my spot?

We understand that life can change unexpectedly. All bookings are non-refundable due to the costs involved in organising group trips. However, if an event has sold out, we do allow you to sell your place to another community member, provided this is done outside of 12 weeks before the event. If you need to cancel, please email [email protected] with your order number so we can help process things as smoothly as possible. Any payment arrangement between you and the person taking your place is handled privately.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes and this is really important. We require all guests to take out suitable travel insurance as a condition of booking, especially for overseas trips. We also strongly recommend insurance for UK events in case of illness or injury. Insurance should be arranged as soon as you book, to cover situations such as cancellation, illness, injury or loss of belongings. This responsibility sits with the guest, and we’re unable to arrange insurance on your behalf.

At our events

What is the food like?

Food details are always outlined in your itinerary. We collect dietary requirements in advance and do our best to cater for everyone, so you can relax knowing your needs have been considered and you’ll be able to enjoy meals with the group.

Do I have to share a room?

Some events offer the option of a single occupancy room for an additional fee. If having your own space is important to you, this option will be clearly stated on the trip page where available.

What should I wear to an event?
  • UK hiking trips: We recommend checking the weather a few days before and packing layers, including waterproof and warm clothing. In warmer months, shorts can be useful too. Good hiking footwear is essential, along with a comfortable daypack (around 20L), a water bottle and snacks.
  • Overseas trips: Packing guidance will vary depending on location and culture. For example, Iceland requires warm, thermal layers, while Costa Rica will be very different. Guidance on what to pack is always included in your itinerary.
What time does everything begin on the first day?

Once you’ve booked, you’ll receive a detailed itinerary outlining start times, meeting points, parking information (where relevant) and everything else you need to know before you arrive.

When and where does the event finish?

This is also covered in your itinerary. Flights are not included in overseas trips, so you’re free to fly from and return to whichever airport suits you best. For UK trips, some events are self-drive, while others include transport from a central meeting point, all clearly communicated in advance.

How do I get to the event?

Travel to and from the event is your responsibility. Where helpful, we’ll provide guidance on nearby train stations, parking or access points, but you’ll need to arrange your own travel before and after the event.

I don’t drive, can I still attend?

Yes, absolutely. Many of our events are accessible by public transport. Before each event, we create a WhatsApp group where attendees can connect and often arrange car sharing. It’s very common for women to help each other out with lifts from nearby stations or towns.

I’m driving, is there parking?

Parking availability varies by location. Some venues have plenty of parking, others are more limited, and some have none. This will always be clarified in your itinerary so you can plan ahead.

I’m worried about the weather, and what if it rains?

Weather worries are very understandable. If conditions aren’t safe, we may need to adapt the itinerary or activities. Any changes are always made with safety as the priority and communicated clearly in advance where possible. While we can’t offer refunds for itinerary changes, we do everything we can to ensure you still have a positive and enjoyable experience.

If you’re feeling nervous….

Trying something new can bring up a lot of “what ifs”, especially if you’re coming solo or stepping outside your comfort zone. If you’re feeling unsure, you’re not alone, many women feel exactly the same way before joining their first Outdoor Adventure Girls trip. Here are some of the most common worries we hear, answered honestly and gently.

What if I don’t click with anyone?

This is one of the most common fears and a very human one. The majority of women arrive solo, often feeling a little awkward or unsure at first. Because of that, there’s a shared understanding in the group that everyone is finding their feet together. Conversations tend to unfold naturally, without pressure, and friendships often grow through shared experiences rather than forced small talk.

That said, there’s no expectation to instantly bond with everyone. You’re free to connect at your own pace and many women are surprised by how quickly things begin to feel easy.

Do I have to be social all the time?

Not at all. There’s no expectation to be “on” constantly or to socialise every moment of the trip. It’s completely okay to take time for yourself, sit quietly, go for a short walk alone or recharge when you need to. Outdoor Adventure Girls trips are about shared experiences, not forced interaction. You’re welcome exactly as you are whether you’re chatty, quiet, or somewhere in between.

What if I feel anxious or overwhelmed during the trip?

That’s okay, and it happens more often than you might think. Trying something new, especially in a group setting, can bring up emotions. If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed or just need a moment, you’ll never be judged for that. Our leaders are experienced in creating calm, supportive environments, and there’s always space to pause, take a breath or step back when needed. You don’t need to be fearless to be here, just willing.

What if I’m the least experienced person in the group?

Many women worry about this and in reality, there’s always a mix of experience levels on every trip. Our activities are designed so the group stays together, with support and encouragement throughout. No one is expected to perform, compete or prove themselves. Being new or less experienced doesn’t make you a burden, it simply makes you part of the group. Everyone starts somewhere, and you’ll be met with understanding, not judgment.

What if I need extra support during the trip?

You’re never expected to just “push through” on your own. If you need help, reassurance or a bit of extra support at any point, you can always speak to a leader. Asking for what you need is welcomed here, not seen as a weakness. Looking out for one another is part of what makes Outdoor Adventure Girls feel different.

What if this feels outside my comfort zone?

That’s often a sign you’re doing something meaningful. Feeling nervous doesn’t mean you’re making the wrong decision, it usually means you’re trying something new. Many women tell us that their biggest growth and most memorable moments came from saying yes despite feeling unsure. You don’t need to feel ready or confident before you join. Courage often comes after the first step.

If you’re still feeling unsure, that’s okay too. You’re always welcome to reach out with questions or just to talk things through. We’re here to help you feel supported — before, during and after your adventure.
