A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER

[A message from Sophie, founder of OAG]

Hello,

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for joining this group. The main aim is to provide a safe space for women across the UK to get outdoors and push themselves outside their comfort zone, as well as connecting with women in their local area.

The group started in early 2021 when I was sitting at home not knowing who to message about going for a hike the next day.

Despite having friends at the end of my phone, none of them were that interested in going out on a cold January to hike up Ivinghoe Beacon and complete 7 miles on a rainy morning.

So I put a call out to a random London group on Facebook and asked if anyone wanted to meet, to my surprise four ladies messaged back and we met the next day.

I then did the same thing a month later, and then again, and again. And I put a call out for girls who wanted to meet up at Box Hill in Surrey and this time 18 girls showed up, in their hiking gear ready to connect, walk and get outdoors.

This spurred me on even more as more and more women said to me ‘I need adventure friends’. Then Outdoor Adventure Girls was born.

12 months later we have over 9,000+ incredible girls in our main Facebook group and another 11 regional groups aimed at creating a space for girls to meet more locally. And we have hosted over 65+ meet ups across the country.

Then as most of you know, we hosted our first ever BIG WEEKEND in November in Stratford Upon Avon, where 44+ girls attended and we went paddleboarding, connected with each other, enjoyed a 5km hike and indulged in a Sunday roast.  We have another BIG WEEKEND planned for this February, and then two more in the works for summer 2022.

We have BIG plans for 2022 and I am excited to be bringing you along for the ride with me.

If you have any wild ideas for OAG in 2022 drop me a message.

Love Sophie xxx
