Welcome to Outdoor Adventure Girls. We are an outdoor community providing safe and inclusive environments for women to feel confident outdoors, connect with other like-minded women, and challenge the lack of representation of women in the outdoor space.
WHAT WE DO
We provide small group adventure holidays for solo travellers, both in the UK and overseas, and we connect you with new friends as you explore the world. Through our local meetups, weekend getaways, and overseas trips, we bring groups of incredible women together, creating friendships and lasting memories.
We are passionate about mental health and the burden women carry throughout life, giving them the time to recharge, reset, and become their authentic selves when they attend our trips.
Job title: Event Host
Reporting to: Reports to the CEO
Location: UK-based. This role involves working in different venues and environments, depending on the event. Travel is required at weekends and overseas. This is not a salaried role and is a position you could do around your existing full time job.

We are seeking passionate event hosts to assist with the management and hosting of our various events both in the UK and across the world. Our ideal candidates are experienced communicators, have confidence in leading groups, and have a passion for supporting others in accessing the outdoors.

Responsibilities
Event management
- Ensure the smooth running of events and work closely with the CEO to ensure you are briefed in advance of the event and have all the relevant information you need
- Ensure the event agenda is followed and make necessary adjustments to the schedule as required
- Be responsible for all guests and yourself, as well as ensuring the group does not impact on public spaces
- Be the main first aid point of contact for all guests and hold all emergency contacts for all guests and be aware of your procedures, and be able to inform guests of all safety procedures
- Prepare check in and welcome guests, manage guest list, dietaries and medical issues to ensure a smooth running of any event, and provide details of the weekend plans
- Deliver the event introduction, providing guests with all the details they need to know ahead of the trip. This also includes the event close, given at the end of the trip. To also introduce speakers, instructors, and other important individuals during the event.
- Confident to deliver the empowerment workshop at our events, based on guidance from us and shadowing at a previous event (this is a key moment within our trips)
- Provide information and guidance to guests, answering questions as needed and engage with guests to ensure their comfort and satisfaction throughout the event
- Liaising with suppliers on any changes or updates to guests details and/or communicating any changes to guests
- Handle any event customer inquiries, complaints and feedback and feed this back to the CEO or Head of People within an appropriate timeframe
- Feedback your experience to the CEO or Head of People within a given timeframe and be open to hearing feedback about yourself from guests
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor, serving as the face of the event
- We expect all hosts to support getting this social media content where possible, as part of their role as social media plays such a large role in our success.
Customer communications
- Manage communications before, during and after an event
- Responding to guest queries when seen, either on Facebook, WhatsApp or other
- Where possible be involved with your closest regional group so people see your face and name appear and they can become familiar with you as part of the host team
- Providing support with travel logistics if needed
- Promoting events to increase awareness and attendance
Skill requirements
- Proven work experience as an Event Host or similar role
- Be an active member of the Outdoor Adventure Girls host team
- Have an interest in being outside, hiking and watersports (all of our weekends/trips involve an active element)
- A love of the outdoors and experience in spending time in the outdoors and nature
- Excellent communication skills and public speaking skills to communicate with guests
- Enthusiasm and energy to making every event we offer one to remember for our guests
- Outstanding organisational and time-management skills
- Be adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced and small but dynamic team
- Ability to work under pressure and enforce crisis management when required
- A willingness to learn new skills and to get involved
- Be able to manage guests expectations
- Knowledge of the outdoor industry and other outdoor organisations
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
- Familiarity with event planning and hosting etiquette
Outdoor First Aid
From 2024, all OAG hosts will need to have completed 16-hours of Outdoor First Aid by a nationally recognised provider. The Level 3 Outdoor First Aid course is aimed at people undertaking the role of a first aider in an outdoors environment where help may take up to 2-hours to arrive. The outdoor first aid qualification meets national governing bodies requirements which may typically be outdoor activity instructors, or mountain leaders and others that have an interest in outdoor and remote sports.

Hours and rate
- Expectation of you to host at least one UK weekend per year, and one overseas trips per year, with opportunity to host more following feedback and availability.
- You will be recruited for this role on a self-employed basis.
- For UK trips, we pay a day rate of £100 and weekend rate of £250, plus expenses. This is paid after the event via an invoice supplied by you.
- This is a 12-month contract, with the opportunity to renew at the end of the 12 months, following an annual review.
- There is no work required around the planning of events before and after the weekend trips, this is organised by our CEO Sophie, you will only be required to host the weekend.
- This is not a salaried or weekly recurring position, it is a freelance role, with the expectation of hosting events around your existing full time job at 2-3 events a year.
- UK weekend hours are generally from the hours of 4pm on Friday – 1pm on Sunday
- Overseas trips range in length from five days to 16 days, depending on the trip

Timeline
This role is open for recruitment and we are welcoming applications until 5pm on Friday 13 September 2024. After this, we will review and invite applicants for interview.
We aim to have offered the position to a person by 27 September 2024, with the role beginning by 16 November 2024.
Important: You are expected to attend our annual training day on 16 November 2024 in Cirencester, The Cotswolds in order to take on this position. You will also be expected to shadow an existing host on an OAG weekend before you are allocated to host a trip solo.
