How to join a walking group

Joining a walking group has many benefits, including improving your health and fitness, as well as making new friends and connections.

We know the many benefits our members have from joining us, either on regional meet ups, weekend trips and from 2023, our overseas trips.

But often it’s hard to know where to start, we know, because it’s why Outdoor Adventure Girls was founded.

Welcome to Outdoor Adventure Girls. We are an outdoor community providing safe and inclusive environments for women to reconnect with nature and the outdoors, through our local meetups, weekend getaways and training days.

Our mission is to create a safe and inclusive environment for women to feel confident outdoors, connect with other women and to challenge the lack of representation of women in the male-dominated space.

Our founder Sophie set up the group after she was sexually assaulted in her early 20’s and then spent years feeling isolated, scared and alone. She wanted to show women that get have the confidence, resources and support to get outside.

And then after the pandemic as we all emerged from our homes, Sophie was aware at how hard it was to make friends as an adult and to meet likeminded women who loved the outdoors as much as she did.

18 months later and we have over 12,000+ incredible women in our main Facebook group with another 12 regional groups and 30+ regional moderators, across the country, aimed at creating a safe spaces for women to meet others locally.

During this time we have hosted over 200+ meet ups across the country through our regional groups and have since hosted weekend trips in the Peak District (twice), Snowdonia, Lake District, Cornwall, South Downs and more.

How to find a walking group near you

There are lots of walking groups out there (we aren’t the first and we won’t be the last) but what we pride ourselves on is that sense of community and support. We become family when we get together and we support each other, both through the hikes we go on but also through life.
